With Halloween upon us, it brings to mind a humorous story from my teaching days. One year I tye-dyed shirts with a group of elementary students and wore the stained colors of the previous day on my hands. A new fifth grade student arrived first thing in the morning. I learned early on that it worked better for everyone to explain MS, the type of symptoms the students might expect to see and how they could help me if needed. As I finished my introduction and MS instructions the student looked at me very seriously and said, “I can tell from the colors in skin that you are very sick!” It was difficult to hold in my laughter as his honest comment hit my funny bone.
