Twenty years ago we came to Alaska with a plan. We were going to put in 20 years and retire. The time has arrived to travel the country and see all of the sights we have dreamed of for two decades. There were years I could hardly sit still I was so excited to see the eastern fall colors and enjoy the warmth of the Arizona sun in the wintertime. I never dreamed I would go dragging my feet looking back over my shoulder wishing for another year here. Funny how life changes. My children and grandchildren rooted on Prince of Wales Island and now will be so far away. I have a part-time job working for an outstanding person who inspires me everyday with her positive, never give up attitude and endless energy. After five years on disability I have finally begun to build a life again – here. Now, those years of dreaming of being some place else have come to an end and yet I will find myself dreaming of being back here instead.
